Know your responsibilities as an employee

As an employee, you have a responsibility to work safely and follow health and safety rules in your workplace. To ensure you do, the law requires you to cooperate with your employer’s actions to identify tasks involving hazardous manual handling and to assess and control the risk of musculoskeletal disorders in your workplace.

You have a duty to:

  • participate in hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control if your employer asks you to
  • follow any information, training and instruction you have received
  • use the risk controls that have been provided by your employer.

You should help make your workplace safe by participating in the consultation process between your employer and Health and Safety Representative.

By providing feedback, identifying problems and suggesting improvements you are making your workplace a safer place for you and your workmates.

Your knowledge and experience will assist identifying problem areas and providing practical solutions.

After all, it’s our backs, shoulders and necks.
