Introducing the guidelines
As a supervisor you will be required to introduce new and existing
staff to the guidelines. It is therefore essential that you familiarise
yourself with the content.
When a new staff member starts they should view the training section
of these guidelines before they undertake tasks in the Loans and
Shelving area. This will ensure they know how to use equipment such
as trolleys, know the correct way of shelving a book, moving furniture
and understand health and safety hazards in the Library.
When you are introducing a new staff member to the Handle With
Care guidelines, show them:
- how to access the guidelines and get them started
- give them a 'Review Questions' form to fill out,
to assess if they have understood and taken in the information.
When they have finished viewing the Handle With Care guidelines:
- tell them how they went answering the review questions and if
you think they should go over any sections of the guidelines again
- take time to talk about occupational heath and safety and discuss
any queries they may have
- give them an 'Evaluation' form and ask them to
fill it out and return it to you
- give them a 'Handle With Care' handout
- send the 'Evaluation' form to: Chris Uebergang,
Library
(G).
