Lighting

Light quality can have a negative effect on you when carrying out a task. For example, if there is insufficient lighting between shelving units, it may be hard to read call numbers. You may need to alter your posture, bend forward and peer to see the numbers clearly and this creates a hazard.

Report problems such as this.

Dust

Dust seems to be a problem in our libraries. Over a period of time dust builds up on canopies, books and shelves, especially in low-use collections. When it is disturbed it can be a hazard for staff, especially staff who are allergic to dust and have respiratory problems.

If you notice a build up of dust report it to your supervisor.

Canopies, books and shelves need to be cleaned on a regular basis.
