Find newspaper articles on a topic

The Library subscribes to a number of newspaper databases, as well as a selection of local, national and international newspapers. These are available in a variety of formats - electronic, print, or microfilm and microfiche.

Use Discover More

Library home page search box with Discover More highlightedType keywords into the search box on the Library homepage, then select Discover More.

Currently, Discover More will find find articles from Newsbank and Newspaper Source Plus. It is expected that more newspaper databases will become available in coming months.

If your search is about very recent world events - for example, 'julia gillard congress address', or 'queensland floods', the top ranked search result will by default probably be a newspaper article.

If you want to refine your search result to just newspaper articles, either:

Select 'News' from the Source type facet on the left hand side of the screen, or



  Content provider facet from Discover More

 

Within the Content Provider facet, limit your results to just the newspaper-related databases, such as Newsbank and Newspaper Source Plus. Once this limit is applied, all future searches will be limited to the selected databases.

 

Search and find individual newspaper databases

Access newspaper articles by directly searching individual newspaper databases such as Newsbank, Factiva, and Australian Newspapers Online (via Trove).

To find a newspaper database:

  1. Check the News tab on your Library Resource Guide for a list of newspaper databases.

  2. Use Quick Search.
    Type the name of the newspaper database you want into Quick Search.

  3. Make a selection from the Newspapers Search page on Classic catalogue.
    To access the newspaper page, select the Classic catalogue link above the search box on the Library homepage, then select Newspapers from the left hand navigation.
