Deakin University Library is open to members of the community. You are welcome to visit and enjoy the facilities. View and select the type of membership that best suits your needs from the menu on this page.

Note: Membership is only available to individuals. Corporate/group/ business membership is not available. Membership access to electronic resources is restricted, and not to be shared with other individuals.

By joining our Library you agree to abide by the terms of the Library Conditions of Use.

CAVAL

CAVAL membership is available to staff and students from other Victorian universities and TAFE institutes for free.

You can:

  • borrow from any of our campus libraries
  • use our microfilm/microfiche, newspapers, hardcopy journals and reference material
  • purchase a Deakin Visitor's card at the DeakinCard re-load station to use our photocopiers
  • login to your laptops using Eduroam at our campus libraries
  • get assistance from our library staff.

But can't:

  • access 2hr, 1 day or 7 day loans, electronic resources, off-air recordings, DVDs, videos, eBooks or place requests for interlibrary loans or BONUS+.

Join:

Join the CAVAL Reciprocal Borrowing Program at your own library first so they can give you a CAVAL card.

  • Join in person at any of our campus libraries.You will need your current CAVAL card and your student ID with you
  • Download an application form

Free e-resources:

ULANZ

ULANZ membership is available to current staff and students from participating Australian and New Zealand universities for free.

You can:

  • borrow from any of our campus libraries
  • use our microfilm/microfiche, newspapers, hardcopy journals and reference material
  • purchase a Deakin Visitor's card at the DeakinCard re-load station to use our photocopiers
  • login to your laptops using Eduroam at our campus libraries
  • get assistance from our library staff.

But can't:

  • access 2hr, 1 day or 7 day loans, electronic resources, off-air recordings, DVDs, videos, eBooks or place requests for interlibrary loans or BONUS+.

Join:

Join the University Libraries of Australia and New Zealand (ULANZ) borrowing scheme and we will give you a ULANZ card.

  • Join in person at any of our campus libraries.You will need photo ID and proof that you are a current staff/student from another participating Australian university.
  • Download an application form

Secondary schools

Secondary school students can buy a 12 month Library membership for $20.

You can:

  • borrow from any of our campus libraries
  • borrow 10 items for 21 days and renew once
  • use our microfilm/microfiche, newspapers, hardcopy journals and reference material
  • purchase a Deakin Visitor's card at the DeakinCard re-load station to use our photocopiers
  • get assistance from our library staff.

But can't:

  • access 2hr, 1 day or 7 day loans, electronic resources, off-air recordings, DVDs, videos, eBooks or place requests for interlibrary loans or BONUS+
  • access the internet through the Deakin University network.

Join:

Join at any of our campus libraries by completing an application form.

  • You will need proof of enrolment at your school
  • If you are under 18 years of age, you'll need to have your parent or guardian sign the application form
  • The Cashier's office accepts payment by cheque, credit card, cash or EFTPOS in person, on weekdays only..
  • Download an application form

Community members

  • Either complete and application form in person at any of our campus libraries
  • You'll need photo ID and proof of your current Australian address

Please note:
  • Your membership will enable you to remotely access these databases from home.
  • Access to electronic resources is not guaranteed and is subject to change at any time.
  • Membership access to electronic resources is personal, non commercial, and not to be shared with other individuals.

You will need your Library Borrowing Number to use the electronic resources and a PIN (Personal Identification Number).

Once your membership has been processed you will receive your Library ID card, which includes your Library borrowing number starting x011..... (x zero 11....). You are able to create a PIN, when first logging into an electronic resource.

Alumni

Firstly, you will need to join the Deakin University Alumni Community. We need your alumni number to process your library membership application.

We offer 12 month library alumni membership options to Deakin University graduates and former staff, including those living overseas.

You can:

  • borrow from any of our campus libraries
  • use our microfilm/microfiche, newspapers, hardcopy journals and reference material
  • purchase a Deakin Visitor's card at the DeakinCard re-load station to use our photocopiers
  • access selected electronic resources (see list below)
  • get assistance from our library staff

But can't:

  • access 2hr, 1 day or 7 day loans, interlibrary loans, BONUS+, off-air recordings, DVDs, videos or eBooks
  • access the internet through the Deakin University network.

Open University Australia students

We can offer Open University Australia (OUA) students a library membership as a community member that includes borrowing and access to selected databases.

International visitors

Overseas university staff and students visiting Deakin for a short period of time can join our Library for up to 6 months for free.

You can:

  • borrow from any of our campus libraries
  • borrow 10 items, for 21 days and renew once
  • use our microfilm/microfiche, newspapers, hardcopy journals and reference material
  • purchase a Deakin Visitor's card at the DeakinCard re-load station to use our photocopiers
  • get assistance from our library staff.

But can't:

  • access 2hr, 1 day or 7 day loans, electronic resources, interlibrary loans, BONUS+, off-air recordings, DVDs, videos or eBooks
  • access the internet through the Deakin University network.
