Journal contents and alerts
Alerting services keep you up to date with current literature in your discipline. Regular emails notify you when new issues of your selected journals are published. The Library Channel in the Portal also provides the latest issue content of over 100 journal titles through the My online journals option.
Many journal publishers offer a contents pages alerting service:
- Cambridge Journals Online Once registered, browse journals and click on an individual journal title, then click on 'New content email alerts'.
- CSIRO Publishing
- Ebscohost Electronic Journals Service An interface to many publishers journals. Browse journals, then click the journal name to visit it's home page. Click the "Create Alert" button in the upper right corner of the page, and follow instructions.
- Emerald Intelligence (MCB Press)
- Highwire Press (various publishers including Annual Reviews)
- IEEE Xplore (IEEE and IEE transactions, journals and magazines)
- Infotrieve A document supply company, Infotrieve has an alerting service available. For further information please contact your Liaison Librarian. The service may also be used as a multidisciplinary database to identify references.
- IngentaConnect (formerly Ingenta & IngentaSelect)
- Kluwer Journals
- nature.com (Nature Publishing Group)
- Oxford Journals
- Project MUSE Has a specific web page for setting up Project MUSE journal alerts.
- SARA - Scholarly Articles Research Alerting is a service designed to deliver by email, tables of contents for any issue of Carfax, Martin Dunitz, Psychology Press, Routledge, Spon Press or Taylor and Francis journals. This service is free of charge and open to all.

- SpringerLink Register to receive table of contents and keyword alerts
- Wiley InterScience (Wiley Journals - register for "My Profile" to set up alerts)
Databases
You can also save a keyword search which will scan an entire database on a regular basis and send you relevant references. Find instructions below on how to do this for certain databases.
Current Contents and Web of Science
- Select the Register option in the right hand login box, and register as an individual user
- Once registered, you can create your own Journal Lists, TOCs, and saved searches
- Follow the screen prompts to set these up
- You must sign in as an individual in future sessions to make use of the alerts
CSA databases
- Run your search on your selected database.
- At the results page use the "Alerts" button to set up your alert.
- Follow the instructions on the screen .
EbscoHost databases
- Run your search on your selected EbscoHost database.
- At the results page use the "Search History/Alerts" tab to set up your alert.
- Follow the instructions to register on the screen.
- Select the Alert options required
