SciFinder Software for Macintosh

The current version of the SciFinder client is SciFinder 2007 (last updated desktop version).

See the Library's main page on SciFinder if you found this page without passing through the main page.

To run SciFinder on Macintosh computers within Deakin you need:

  1. a machine that meets minimum requirements
    the SciFinder client
  2. Download the Scifinder Scholar software from the Library Software link within the Deakin Software Library by clicking on the Mac OS X link.
  3. Mount and load the DMG file and install the software to your applications folder as per the screen instructions.
  4. Run the SOCKS application Proxifier to obtain access toto SciFinder through the Deakin firewall.

Using SciFinder

SciFinder requires open network access on port 210. Many parts of Deakin do not have this open so you will require SOCKS to gain access to the server.

Run the SOCKS application first and sign in using your Deakin Network user name and password.
Then run SciFinder.

When you finish do not forget to quit the SOCKS application because while it is running all internet traffic (not just SciFinder) goes through the SOCKS server and is registered on your account.

A user's manual (PDF) is included as part of the install.

Consult a Liaison Librarian for more advice.
