Free databases and other resources

These libraries/institutions provide access to various free online databases and resources. At some locations, membership is required to obtain access to the online databases and other resources.

State Library of Victoria
If you live in Victoria, then the State Library of Victoria, allows you to find and access selected databases from home. You need to register as a Library user first.

State Library of New South Wales
A selected number of databases are available for access from home for residents of New South Wales. To participate you must be a New South Wales resident and must also be registered as a State Library client.

State Library of Queensland
A selection of databases are available for access from home for Queensland wide, to e-services card holders and Queensland public library members.

State Library of Western Australia
A selection of databases are avaible for access from home for residents with a Western Australian public library membership card number.

Northern Territory Library
Some selected resources are available to anyone from home, though others are only accessible to library members of eligible client groups. For information on databases select "Online Databases".

State Library of Tasmania
The State Library subscribes to a number of online databases. Most are available from home if you are a member.

National Library of Australia
Many of the resources are freely available to anyone with internet access, but some are licensed resources which may only be used in the National Library of Australia. Information about databases can be found at: www.nla.gov.au/app/eresources/ . The National Library also provides a Copies Direct service when for a small fee, they can provide you with copies of articles, chapters, whole books, even photographs, pictures, maps, manuscripts, music and sound recordings.

The Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information (NRC-CISTI)
Canada's foremost provider of scientific, technical, engineering and medical information services. Search and order articles, conference proceedings, and technical reports. No registration required to search. Registration required to order. Payment will need to be made to obtain some articles, eBooks.

The British Library
A selected number of databases are available via the internet to anyone.

More free resources of an academic standard may be found by searching Google Scholar.

Deakin University acknowledges the traditional land owners of present campus sites.
