Overdue points
The Library applies an overdue point system for items that have been borrowed and are overdue (when an item has not been returned or renewed by the due date).
Long overdue items will generate an invoice.
It is the responsibility of the borrower to ensure that items are returned or renewed by the due date. You are advised not to lend any items you have borrowed to another person, as you are responsible for the return of all items listed on your record.
Overdue points accrue each day an item is overdue. (Overdue points for 2 hour loan items accrue every hour the item is overdue). See table below for the number of points for each type of item.

10 per day overdue
(plus the number of points obtained for the item, i.e. 7 day loan item that is overdue will accrue 10 points per day for the item, plus 10 points per day because the item has been requested by someone else, a total of 20 points per day.) |
100 points means 2 week suspension from borrowing
- If you have returned items that were overdue, and have obtained 100 overdue points or more, you will not be able to borrow or renew for at least 2 weeks, (i.e. you will be suspended from borrowing). For every 100 overdue points you obtain, you may be stopped from borrowing any items, except 2 hour loan items, for 2 weeks.
- At the end of your suspension period, you will be able to borrow again.
Removal of points
- Any outstanding points from the suspension (i.e. any points over the 100 point limit), will be cleared each morning (Monday to Friday). For example if you have total of 125 points, the 100 points will automatically be deleted and the suspension put in place, the outstanding 25 points should be cleared from your record the following working day.
- You may apply for a reduction or waiver of overdue points. If you would like to request consideration for a reduction or waiver please ask staff at the Service Desk for an ‘Application to review my library status, or to ask for a reduction or waiver of an invoice or overdue points’ form.
Overdue items need to be returned prior to the suspension date to avoid accruing further overdue points that could contribute to another suspension being imposed.
Renewing overdue items
- An overdue item can only be renewed by library staff and if no one else has requested it. Renewed items may accrue overdue points.

- If you have an item that is overdue and not returned within a certain period, then you will be sent an invoice for the item.
