Renew / Return items

To renew your loans through your MY LIBRARY record.

You are able to renew your overdue items, though you may accrue some penalty points because the item has been overdue. The Library does not charge fines for overdue material that is on loan. A penalty point system is used instead.
The number of penalty points for an overdue item = one point per day per item

If there is a HOLD on an item it cannot be renewed, and will need to be returned by the due date as it is required by another client. You may accrue penalty points if you do not return the item by the due date.
The number of penalty points for an item on Hold = one point per day. If the item has been recalled = three points per day.

You are not able to renew Reserve items.

Returning items

Items can be returned at any campus of the Deakin University Library. A courier service operates daily to return items to their home library. After hours return chutes are located near the entrance to the libraries.

Off campus students can return items using the prepaid bag supplied when the items were delivered. Australia Post items may be dropped into any post box or at an Australia Post outlet. For Australia Air Express (AAE) items, you will need to telephone the number listed on the bag to arrange pick-up by the AAE courier. Express Post items may be returned using the yellow (gold) post boxes where possible, or at an Australia Post outlet.

Overseas students should return items by airmail not courier, unless otherwise arranged. You will initially have to pay return postal costs and these costs are reimbursed once the Library has received and processed the postal receipts for each package. The receipt should contain the cost of postage in local currency and the fact that items were sent to Deakin University Library. The Library will not reimburse costs paid on customs duty. Reimbursements can be deposited into an Australian bank account, or you can be sent an overseas draft (cost = $2.50). A telegraphic transfer to your overseas bank account can also be arranged, (may cost $25 or more).
