Linking to electronic journal titles

You can create a persistent link to an electronic journal title from the eJournals link via the Library catalogue or by building a link using a URL obtained from within a database or ejournal service that offers the title.

Creating a link from the eJournals link is a consistent way of creating a persistent link to any ejournal to which the Library subscribes, while the process of creating links from databases or ejournal services will differ, depending on which database or ejournal service offers the title.

Linking to an electronic journal from the Journals tab on the Library catalogue

  1. Go to the Library catalogue at: http://library.deakin.edu.au/
  2. Click on the Journals tab of the catalogue
  3. Under the heading Find ONLY ELECTRONIC journals, newspapers and magazines
  4. Either Click on an A- Z letter option to browse to the journal title,
    OR
use the search box Find e-journals by title or ISSN: to go directly to a title

Once you have located your title, you will see that it is listed as being present in one or more databases

The date range for which the title is available and a personal preference for a particular database may influence which link you decide to follow.

  5. Once you have decided on a database or publisher, right click on the database title and select Copy Shortcut (Internet Explorer) or Copy Link Location (Mozilla) to copy the URL
  6. Paste the URL into your web or DSO page to create a direct link to the electronic title

Note: This method of creating a direct link to an electronic journal automatically incorporates a mechanism (ezproxy) that allows off campus access.

Building a link to an electronic journal using a URL obtained from within a database or ejournal service

It is also possible to create a persistent link to an electronic journal by using a URL for an individual title obtained from within a database or ejournal service to build the link.

The process involved in building these links differs from database to database and is detailed in the instructions for building a link using a URL obtained from within a database or ejournal service.

Note: This method does not automatically incorporate a mechanism (ezproxy) that allows off campus access. As part of the instructions for building a persistent link, you will be required to add an ezproxy prefix to any URL you obtain from a database or ejournal service.
