Creating links to the ACM Digital Library

You can create a persistent link to an article within an ACM Digital Library journal for which Deakin University Library has a subscription. For more information about the ACM Digital Library, see the ACM Digital Library database information page.

View the full text link within ACM Digital Library to ensure the title is available to Deakin University users in full text - some material is only available as an abstract.

Creating a link to a full text article in the ACM Digital Library

  1. You must be on campus to create the link.
  2. Connect to the ACM Digital Library using this link (http://www.acm.org/dl/).
  3. Locate the article
  4. Browse the ACM journals or search for an article, then go to the full text article screen.
  5. Below the citation details, you will see a DOI (Digital Object Identifier):
eg. DOI Bookmark: Use this link to bookmark this Article: http://doi.acm.org/10.1145/971617.971622
  6. You can use the DOI to create a persistent link to the article.
  7. Place your mouse pointer over the DOI Bookmark number, and right click your mouse (Windows users).
  8. Select "Copy Shortcut" form the list (Internet Explorer) or "Copy Link Location" (Mozilla).
  9. Insert the following text immediately before the DOI:
  10. http://ezproxy.deakin.edu.au/login?url=
  11. For example:
    http://ezproxy.deakin.edu.au/login?url=http://doi.acm.org/10.1145/971617.971622
  12. Paste the finished URL into your web or DSO page to create the link you require.
  13. Note: Some ACM references do not have a DOI number. In this case the URL in the address box of the "full citation" screen can be used. Place http://ezproxy.deakin.edu.au/login?url= in front of the URL to build the persistent URL.

Creating a link to individual ACM publications

ACM has provided a list of URLs for individual ACM publications. The list is available at: http://www.caul.edu.au/caul-programs/ceirc/publishers/acm

  1. Preface the link for an individual title with http://ezproxy.deakin.edu.au/login?url=

For example, the link for ACM Journal of Computer Documentation (JCD) would be:

    http://ezproxy.deakin.edu.au/login?url=http://portal.acm.org/JCD/

  2. Paste the finished URL into your web or DSO page to create the link you require.

Note: You can also create persistent links via the eJournals link on the Library homepage
