Logging on problems

There may be a number of reasons why you are having difficulty logging on to an online resource belonging to the library. Some help may be found in the following information.

PINs

You will need a PIN (Personal Identification Number) to access:

• Library databases. To search for articles, and information on your assignment or research topic.

• Library electronic journals. To search for journals that are available online.

• Your personal library record via the library catalogue. To see what you have borrowed, renew items you have borrowed, and request library material be sent to you (only available to Deakin University staff, and off campus students).

You will need to create your own PIN, which can be done by following the instructions in the pop up box that is displayed when you try to access some library online resources.

If you do not remember your PIN then you will need to contact the Library and ask for it to be reset or reset your PIN through "My Library"

Note: Some databases available from the Library require an individual login and password. Use the button from the Database Title List to connect to the information about the password required for that database.

Library Borrowing (barcode) number

Your Library Borrowing (barcode) number is the number beginning with X011 underneath the barcode that is printed near the bottom of your Deakin Card. It is not your student number/id, though those numbers are included in it.

If you do not have a Deakin Card then you can contact Division of Student Administration) to obtain one, or contact library staff who can provide you with your Library Borrowing (barcode) number.

Security Certificates

Sometimes (depending on the ISP and browser you use), you may be prompted for a security certificate associated with library authentication. In this case it is recommended you either accept the certificate or add it to your browser. The certificate is designed to protect your authentication details over the Internet when you make use of the library authentication option. Adding the certificate to your browser will mean you are not prompted again for a 12 month period.

Click on Continue if you see this message:

Warning! You have requested an insecure document that was originally designated a secure document (the location has been redirected from a secure to an insecure document). The document and any information you send back could be observed by a third party while in transit.

Help! If you experience difficulties getting to the Library authentication prompt screen, and you have not had problems in the past, you may need to delete an old certificate and then install a new one. Details on deleting a certificate from some common browsers is available.

Deakin Username And Password.

The Deakin network username and password is used to access:

• resources restricted to Deakin students. For example: Electronic readings or past exam papers in the Library Catalogue.

• the Internet from within the Deakin network, ie. on campus

• general purpose computing laboratory workstations

Your username is part of your Deakin email address. For help with your Deakin network username and password, go to Your Deakin Username and Password.
