Community Borrowers

Welcome to Deakin University Library. This site provides you with information about the type of resources and services that are available to you as a visitor to the Library.

The Deakin University Library is open to members of the community and you are welcome to visit and use the Deakin University Library and make photocopies/scans from the collection (subject to copyright restrictions). If you want to borrow material you will need to join the library. Membership is available to individual members of the community through several types of categories.

Once you have joined the library you will be able to borrow from any of the four campus libraries, using your Library Borrowing card and have access to selected online databases. Membership access to databases is personal, and not to be shared with other individuals.

B Mail Delivery membership	All members of the community	Complete application form and submit at any campus library. No identification required with application.
C Overseas membership	Members of the community living overseas	Complete application form and send to library. No identification required with application.
D Alumni membership - Australia	Deakin University graduates and staff living in Australia	Complete application form and submit at any campus library. Deakin University Alumni Card or Alumni number required.
E Alumni membership - overseas	Deakin University graduates and staff living overseas	Complete application form and send to library. Deakin University Alumni number required.
F CAVAL membership	Victorian University and Victorian TAFE students and staff	Complete application form and submit at any campus library. Provide current CAVAL card - obtained from your home library, and photo identification
G ULA membership	Australian University students and staff	Complete application form and submit at any campus library. Provide proof of enrolment/employment, such as current student or staff identification, and photo identification

Staff and students from other Australian universities and Victorian TAFEs may join the library as CAVAL or ULA members.
Staff and students from overseas universities are welcome to become Library members upon proof of enrolment/employment at an overseas university. Some other form of photo identification must be provided, as well as proof of your temporary Australian address, and your permanent home (overseas) address. Membership is for a 6 month period, and is free.
Corporate membership is not available.

Costs and categories of membership

Costs and categories of membership includes information about loan periods, number of items that can be borrowed, if your membership includes access to databases and interlibrary loans, and other information.

Databases

Database information includes a list of selected databases. It is important that you be aware that membership access to the databases is personal, and not to be shared with other individuals. To check if your membership includes access to databases please go to costs and categories.
Other free databases and resources are available at other locations.

How to join

CAVAL and ULA borrowers may complete the Application for CAVAL/ULA Community Borrower Membership form (pdf format) attached, or obtain one from any campus library.

Other members of the community may complete the Application for Community Borrower Membership form (pdf format) attached, or obtain one from any campus, or contact any campus library to arrange for a form to be sent to you.

Cash payments cannot be accepted at the Library - all cash payments must be made to the campus Cashier's office during business hours.
