Services to students with a disability

The Library offers specialised services to students with a disability including a longer loan period and access to specialised equipment. All Deakin students must register with the Disability Resource Centre to be eligible for these services. Individual library support and instruction can be arranged through the Disability Liaison Officers within the Equity and Diversity unit.

Geelong Campus at Waterfront

  • Disabled parking in Gheringhap Street
  • Wheelchair access from Gheringhap Street to Library on Level 3 via internal lift
  • Wheelchair accessible toilets are located directly opposite the lift on Level 3

Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus

  • Disabled parking in carpark beside Library, wheelchair access from carpark to Library main entrance on Level 2

Melbourne Campus at Burwood

  • Disabled parking is located behind the library building

The Facilities Management Services Division provides further information regarding accessibility for people with disabilities including parking, access to buildings and mobility maps for each campus

Other Services

Students with a disability may be eligible for the library delivery service. Please contact the Disability Liaison Officers within the Disability Resource Centre (DRC) if you want to discuss your eligibility for the off-campus library delivery service.

Students with a print disability may require print unit materials (including textbooks, unit readers, and unit guides) converted to digital files. This service is provided by the Print disability service in the Library. Please contact the Disability Liaison Officers within Disability Resource Centre (DRC) if you want to discuss your eligibility for this service

Assistive technology equipment

Assistive technology equipmentis available at the Geelong at Waurn Ponds, Melbourne at Burwood, Geelong Waterfront Campus and Warrnambool campus libraries. Bookings must be made to use the equipment at each campus via the information service desk.

Scanner These machines use Windows 7 as their operating system. The major assistive technology software interacts with a host of commonly used software packages found on all general purpose computer laboratory workstations within Deakin.

Visual disability icon [low vision]

The Library at Melbourne at Burwood also has a Text Magnifier machine for use with print materials. Adjustable wheelchair accessible study tables and catalogue terminals on low tables are provided at the Geelong Waterfront, Geelong at Waurn Ponds and Melbourne at Burwood campuses.
