To borrow you need your Deakin Card, or library borrower's card. You may borrow from the Loans Desk at any campus, or you can use the Library's Express Loans Unit.

Obtain your Deakin Card.
Off campus, on campus students and staff, should make sure that your your Deakin Card is obtained from the Division of Student Administration. Your Deakin Card is the only accepted form of identification for students and staff. You will need this card to borrow books and other Library material. You may add money to your card to pay for services such as photocopying and printing.
Locate your Library ID (borrowing) number
Your Library ID (borrowing) number located at the bottom of your Deakin Card, underneath the barcode. It is different from your Student number.
It begins with "X011" x zero one one eg. x0115001001011
Borrowing
When borrowing library material in person, you must produce your own valid borrower's card.
Off campus borrowers must provide their student or library borrowing number.(See 'Obtain your Deakin Card' above, if you do not have a card).
Long term proxy borrowers must provide proof of ID, and a letter of permission from card holder at time of borrowing. Approval must given by the University Librarian for long term proxy borrowing.
"One off" proxy borrowing is allowed but card holder must provide signed and dated approval in writing, permitting the person to borrow on their behalf. Letter of approval, the borrowing card, and the ID of the person borrowing must be provided at time of borrowing. All responsibility for allowing someone else to borrow items on your behalf is your own.
You are responsible for the safekeeping and the return of borrowed items by the due date. You may be held responsible for any items borrowed on your card.
The loss of your borrower's card must be reported to the Library as soon as possible. You may be responsible for any items borrowed on your card, until the time the Library has received and acknowledge such a report.
