Service to students with a disability

The Library offers specialised services to students with a disability including a longer loan period. All Deakin students must register with the Disability Resource Centre to be eligible for these services. Individual library support and instruction can be arranged through the Disability Liaison Officers within Student Services.

The Facilities Management Services Division provides further information regarding accessibility for people with disabilities including parking, access to buildings and mobility maps for each campus.

OnLine and Off-Campus Service

Students with a disability may be eligible for the off-campus library delivery service.   Please contact the Disability Liaison Officers within Student Life if you want to discuss your eligibility for the off-campus library delivery service.

Students with a print disability may require print unit materials (including textbooks, unit readers, and unit guides) converted to digital files.  This service is provided by the Digital Environment unit in the Library.  Please contact  the Disability Liaison Officers within Student Life if you want to discuss your eligibility for this service.

Assistive Technology Laboratories
There are assistive technology laboratories at the Geelong at Waurn Ponds, Melbourne at Burwood, and Warrnambool campus libraries.  Bookings must be made to use the Assistive Technology Laboratory at Melbourne campus. Each laboratory contains the following hardware and software:

Software

These machines use Windows 2000 as their operating system. The major assistive technology software interacts with a host of commonly used software packages found on all general purpose computer laboratory workstations within Deakin.

Visual disability icon [low vision]

The Library at Melbourne at Burwood and Warrnambool also have Text Magnifier machines for use with print materials. Adjustable wheelchair accessible study tables and catalogue terminals on low tables are provided at Geelong at Waurn Ponds and Melbourne at Burwood campuses.

Study rooms with audiovisual equipment are available through a booking system.
