Library services

• Loans can be delivered to your home or work address at no cost to you as we include a postage paid return envelope
• Copies can be emailed to your nominated email address
• We can help you find information on a topic if you are having difficulties finding relevant stuff.

Requesting loans and copies

Your My Library account can be used for requesting loans and copies, renewing loans, viewing your reading history and tracking items you've placed a hold on.You can check your mailing address, any overdue points you've accrued, set up RSS feeds and much more.

Use Search

• Search the library catalogue for the book, DVD, or other item you need including copies from harcopy journals, microfiche and microfilm
• Select Request It and choose where you would like to pick up this title from ie. Off-Campus Delivery (unless you plan to visit one of our campuses)
• Submit.

Delivery and return of loans

Loans can be delivered to your home or work address. Library staff can add a message to your Library record to ensure the correct delivery address or you can update your own address via My Library, CloudDeakin or Student Connect.

• A prepaid postage return envelope is provided with your loans. In some circumstances courier delivery can be arranged
• You can also return any loan to any campus library if convenient.

Borrowing in person

You are welcome to borrow in person at any campus library if you wish. You will need to have a Deakin Card to borrow in person from Deakin or other libraries who participate in reciprocal borrowing schemes.

Deakin Card

You are entitled to a Deakin Card and are required to send a photo to Waurn Ponds Deakin Central, Building jb, Level 2, Pigdons Rd, Geelong 3217.  To ensure that you enclose the appropriate documentation, you should contact Deakin Central on 03 5227 2333 or email them.

Borrow from other libraries

As a Deakin student, you may also be able to borrow from other libraries near you through the CAVAL or ULANZ reciprocal borrowing schemes.

Request information on a topic

Finding and using information can sometimes be challenging. All library users are likely to have questions or need advice, including how to find the right articles, or books for assignments. Off-campus students can request assistance with searching for information on a topic, if you have had difficulties locating relevant information. You can:

• Use an Off-Campus Subject Request Form to submit your subject requests
• Contact your Liaison Librarian in your area of study, as he/she will have the expertise in your subject area to be able to assist you
• Ask a question using our online form

Some important information about subject requests:

• Don't leave subject requests to the last minute
• Use keywords to describe the topic you're researching. An example of a well-worded request is: 'I would like any books or articles which look at the design of training programs in the workplace, especially in the supermarket and retail industries'
• Try to put your assignment topic in your own words, to describe the information you want
• Consult the references listed in your study guide and unit guide before making a subject request. You are likely to find references to books and articles which will satisfy some or all of your needs
• Sometimes we can send database searches and full text articles as an attachment to your Deakin email address.
  

Overseas off-campus students

Overseas students should return items by airmail, not courier, unless otherwise arranged with the Library.

• You will initially have to pay return postal costs and these costs are reimbursed once the Library has received and processed the postal receipts for each package
• The receipt should contain the cost of postage in local currency and the fact that items were sent to Deakin University Library
• The Library will not reimburse costs paid on customs duty. Reimbursements can be deposited into an Australian bank account, or you can be sent an overseas draft (cost = $2.50)
• A telegraphic transfer to your overseas bank account can also be arranged (may cost $25 or more).
