Yes. Residences provides a range of support services and networks to help the student in your life get the most out of their Deakin experience.
It is therefore our intention to:
We provide students with a "wealth of information" when they arrive on residence, including an information sheet regarding their postal address and phone number. It is then their responsibility to notify you and other relevant parties of their new postal information.
Due to privacy legislation, we are unable to disclose a student's contact details to another person. Should you need to forward postal items to your son or daughter prior to notification of their permanent address, please address it to them at the Residences office.
Should you find the need to make enquiries about your son or daughter at residence, please contact staff at the Residences Office, they will direct you to the Campus Manager to assist with any advice.
Due to privacy legislation, we are unable to disclose any personal information about our residents to another person, this does including family members. Unless written consent has been given by the resident, we are unable to provide information to others regarding the resident's address, room phone number, accounts or fee information.
The Residences has a 24-hour reception desk to support your son or daughter at any time. There are also Deakin security guards on duty at the main campus and security guards specifically assigned to the residences after hours. Students can ring Security 24 hours a day and can also request to be escorted to and from areas of the campus to ensure their safety.
You are welcome to come and visit your son or daughter at the residences. Notifying reception during the day is not necessary. However, if you are staying the night you will need to be registered as a guest before 11pm. As part of the Residences Guest Policy, your son or daughter will need to come to reception to complete a Guest Pass. This pass then needs to be kept on the guest at all times. Failure to provide this pass will mean that the guest is escorted off residences.
Residents are only permitted 1 guest at a time, are only permitted to stay 3 nights per week and no guests are permitted during orientation weeks, study or exam periods.
Once they have been offered an academic place at Deakin, we will then consider their application for on-campus accommodation using the following selection criteria:
1) Application is completed
2) Timing of their application (date received)
3) Geographic location - distance that they live from campus
4) Their responses to the questions in the application process (please ensure your son or daughter answers these questions themselves).
Note: If applying for a Studio Apartment (NRAS) they must also meet the low income criteria and complete an income declaration. If applying for Shared Accommodation the application fee must be paid.

"Roger and I just wanted to touch base with you to say thank you again for accepting Jessica into Res. Jess is very happy and has adjusted to University Life so well and much quicker than any of us thought she would. She loves living in Residence and although she is very quiet and not venturing off campus much, she is participating in many of the Res and University activities and thoroughly enjoying them.
Thank you to you and all your team for making her entry to University so easy, enjoyable and successful, we are very grateful."
