Getting to the Geelong Waurn Ponds campus

Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus is easily accessible by a variety of transport methods including walking, cycling, public transport, private car, etc.

Train

V/Line trains operate regularly between Southern Cross Station in Melbourne and Warrnambool, stopping at the Waurn Ponds Station. Connecting buses run from this train station to the Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus.

Bike: Bike riders are asked to use the last door of the last carriage where possible, and strongly advised to avoid the front of the train, where wheelchair users board.

The free Geelong cube bus service

Deakin University operates a free shuttle bus service for students and staff which has a stop at the Barwon Valley Activity Centre, Barwon Heads Road, Belmont (BVAC). The Cube bus is frequent, free and direct to the Waterfront and Waurn Ponds Campuses.

The free Park and Ride service

Deakin University operates a free Park and Ride service from the Barwon Valley Activity Centre, Barwon Heads Road, Belmont (BVAC). Students and staff can park their car or bike at BVAC and catch The Cube bus direct to the Waterfront and Waurn Ponds Campuses.

Public Bus and Coach Services

There are five bus services that run from Geelong CBD or railway station to the Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus:

  • Route 14 bus (Geelong City to Grovedale/Waurn Ponds and Deakin University)
  • Route 16 bus (Geelong City to Highton and Deakin University)
  • Route 18* bus (Geelong Railway Station to Deakin University) - this is the most direct and fastest bus from Geelong's CBD to Deakin University 
  • Route 19 bus (Geelong Railway Station to Marshall and Deakin University)
  • Route 20 bus (Geelong Railway Station to Grovedale and Deakin University)

* Note that this is a limited stop service operating Monday to Friday during University teaching periods only.

V/Line Coaches run from many regional centres, including the Great Ocean Road and Ballarat, to the Geelong city and Geelong station.

Myki

Myki is your way to pay to travel on public transport in Victoria.

Did you know that you can buy myki on campus?

There is a myki hand held device in the DUSA Bookshop on the Waurn Ponds, Waterfront and Burwood campuses which will allow you to:

  • view your myki details
  • purchase an anonymous myki
  • top up your myki (money and pass), and
  • renew a myki pass.

Cycle

The Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus is easily accessed by an extensive system of bicycle trails. On campus you will find showers and change rooms, bike racks and lockers to make your commute as easy and safe as possible. For more information see the Walking and Cycling link under the Quick Links.

Car

A limited amount of parking is available on campus. Deakin University car parks are classified as Permit Parking Zones and a valid Deakin University parking permit is required at specified times.

You can drive from Melbourne to Geelong via the West Gate and Princes freeways. Approximate commute time from Melbourne CBD to the Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus is one hour.

Carpooling 

Deakin University provides a free online carpool matching service to help you find someone to carpool with to the Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus. Carpooling is a great way to save money by sharing the cost of a parking permit and petrol, while making new friends.

Interest free loans for transport expenses

Did you know that Student Financial Support provides interest free loans to students who are either in financial need or are progressing satisfactorily with their studies for transportation expenses?
