Deakin Card Essentials

Need a Deakin Card (student ID card)?

Your Deakin Card is the only accepted form of identification while you are on campus and you are required to carry it at all times.

When to get your Deakin Card (Student ID Card)

You will be able to get your Deakin Card anytime after you have enrolled, but it's a good idea to arrange it as early as possible. If you have intermitted or deferred your course then you'll need to wait until you've returned to or started your study before requesting a card.

How to get your Deakin Card (Student ID Card)

Make sure you have your Student or Staff ID number and an alternative form of identification when you get your card. If you are:

  • studying at a campus:  Go to a Deakin Central office on any campus and have your photo taken.  You'll collect your card straight away.
  • studying through Cloud (online) you can either:
    • Visit Deakin Central if you are close to a campus.
    • Send a photo to enquire@deakin.edu.au. Photos should be in jpeg format, similar to passport with maximum pixel height and width: 1024 x 1024 and maximum file size of 256kb. In the email make sure you provide your Student ID number and a copy of a form of photo ID (eg. Passport or Drivers Licence). Make sure that the address on your enrolment details is current. It will take between 1 to 2 weeks for your card to be sent to you.

When your new card has been issued you will need to wait between 1 to 24 hours before being able to print.

Replacement card

If you lose, misplace, or have your Deakin Card stolen, you should immediately deactivate the card.

To obtain a replacement card you can contact Deakin Central on any campus and they will print you a new card while you wait. A fee of $20 will be charged to obtain your replacement card.

When your new card has been issued you will need to wait between 1 to 24 hours before being able to print.

Deactivated card

If you have deactivated your card please contact Deakin Card to have your card reactivated.

The Deakin Central website has the locations for each campus and opening times.

Do you need a Deakin Card if you are a cloud (online) student?

You might still need a Deakin Card even if you are a Cloud (online) student, for example, as an ID when you sit an exam or if you want to use Library services online. To get your Deakin Card, you can:

It will take between 1 to 2 weeks for your card to be sent to you.

Access card

Your Deakin Card (Student ID card) can also be an access card,  if you apply and are approved for access to buildings.

Studying on campus at night or on weekends is a great way to get the quiet time you need to complete your studies. Some buildings are locked outside of university hours, so you will need to request access.

If approved, the access will be automatically added to your Deakin Card and you will receive an email notification when it's ready to use. You can apply for access by completing the request form.

Deakin College students

Your Deakin College ID card is recognised as a Deakin Card and has the same functionality.  Not only is it your ID and library card but it can also be used as an on-campus payment card.  Simply add funds online to your card and start swiping for all of your printing, cafe, retail purchases and more!

Visitors

As so many of our campus services are accessed through the use of a Deakin Card, we have a Visitor Deakin Card available for all visitors to the University.

Visitor Cards can be purchased at many of our Reload Stations for $5 and they come with a credit of $3 pre-loaded.  A Visitor Card can be used for:

  • Photocopying (there is no printing capability)
  • Cafe and restaurant purchases
  • Vending purchases at selected machines
  • Bookstore, merchandise and general retail purchases

Visitor Cards can be topped up at most Reload Stations, Deakin Central or the Cashier Offices.
