Student wellbeing

At Deakin, your health and wellbeing are key to succeeding in your studies and making the most of university life. We have a range of services to help students and staff stay healthy and safe – physically, mentally and spiritually.

Put your wellbeing first

There’s nothing more important than your health and wellbeing. We want you to feel your best, on and off campus, so you can achieve your study goals and enjoy your time at Deakin. Whenever you need it, you can access doctors or nurses, mental health services (including free online counselling), physiotherapy, disability support and much more.

Medical centres

All students and staff can access confidential medical services provided by qualified and experienced doctors and nurses. There's either an accredited medical centre or clinical nursing service located on each campus. We offer all services you'd expect from a doctor's surgery, including:

  • managing and treating general illness
  • mental health treatment, referral and management
  • physiotherapy
  • preventative health checks
  • vaccinations, including seasonal and travel
  • health coaching
  • women's health (including unplanned pregnancy counselling and referral)
  • blood, urine and other pathology tests
  • specialist referrals.

Student consultations are free (bulk billed) through Medicare or a valid Overseas Student Health Cover. Fees apply for procedures, vaccinations and equipment hire, such as crutches. Your medical information will always stay confidential. Deakin University manages personal and health information in accordance with the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 and Victorian Health Records Act 2001.

Counselling for students

Counselling for students

Our experienced psychologists and social workers offer free, confidential counselling support to all Deakin students in Australia. Find solutions and better manage the challenges you’re experiencing, such as stress, anxiety or depression, face to face or over the phone. We also offer a free online service, Ask Counselling.

Disability support services

Find the information, services and support you need from Deakin’s Disability Resource Centre if disability, health or mental health affects your studies and participation in university life. Together with a Disability Liaison Officer, we will work with you to identify any adjustments, services and recommendations that will assist the University to meet your study needs.

Multifaith chaplaincy

Deakin Chaplaincy offers compassionate, confidential support to everyone, whether religious or not. On each campus you’ll find a dedicated space for prayer or reflection and chaplains of different faiths to chat to. You can also contact our chaplains by email or phone.

Safety and security

The safety of all our students, staff and visitors is paramount to us. We have around-the-clock, on-campus security services to ensure you always get the assistance you need, when you need it.

Child care

Child care

Child care is available on each of our campuses, allowing you to focus on your studies while your child is in the best care possible. Not a student or staff member? Children from the local area are welcome at our centres too, however waiting lists apply.

Parent rooms

Every Deakin campus has a dedicated room which meets the standards for the University's accreditation as a Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace. You can change your baby's nappy, heat up milk or breastfeed. We also have baby change facilities in designated toilets on each campus.

Our parent rooms feature everything you need, including a comfortable chair close to a table and power point for breastfeeding equipment, sink, microwave, fridge and lockable door. You can find our parent rooms in the following locations.
