Q&A with Erin

Why did you choose this area of study?

I wasn\'t really sure what to do after finishing school, so I decided to follow my heart and choose a pathway that I felt I would enjoy and do well in. Creating art and thinking creatively has always been a part of me, so I had to grow further as a person.

Why Deakin?

I chose Deakin mainly because of its trustworthiness and highly influential facilities and services as a local education foundation.

What is the best opportunity you have had at Deakin?

The best opportunity for me has been having my art projected up on the windows of the Geelong Waterfront campus for the After Dark and Mountain to Mouth festivals, being part of a team of artists. Also having my artwork chosen to be exhibited in the Sally Walker Building.

Deakin insider tip?

Keep exploring your subject and consistently push its boundaries as a hobby.

How has your experience at Deakin affected your life?

I have made new friends, met very interesting people and gained confidence in myself and my art. I also have learnt to accept that I will be challenged in life and pushed out of my comfort zone, but instead of fear I should embrace it.

Any recommendations for someone considering Deakin?

I would say go for it, take a risk and try it out. Don't to be afraid to spread your wings and give yourself a chance. You can achieve anything you put your mind to and resilience is instinctive.
