Our newest learning centre offers facilities, resources and support to Deakin students who live in the vicinity of the picturesque Yarra Valley, fifty kilometres from Melbourne's centre. Nestled in the green and tranquil setting of Box Hill Institute of TAFE’s Lilydale Lakeside Campus, you can get the services that you need without needing to travel to a campus.
Free parking is available adjacent to the centre.
Lilydale train station is located about one kilometre from the learning centre with Bus 670 stopping at the door of the Lilydale Lakeside Campus.
In addition to a tutor for each unit you study, there are the academic and peer support services available to all Deakin students whether you're studying at a campus or online.
Library staff provide expert advice on finding, using, and disseminating information resources to meet your learning and research needs.
Writing Mentors are current Deakin students who have excelled in their studies and have undertaken training to be the first point of contact to assist other students. They can answer a range of questions about assessment tasks, assignment structure, Turnitin reports, academic referencing, extensions to due dates, CloudDeakin, student services and more.
They're available online Monday 2–5pm, and Tuesday to Friday from 11am–2pm throughout the teaching weeks of Trimester 1 and 2, and can be consulted without an appointment. Learning Centre staff will help you dial into the online meeting.
Language and Learning Advisers are Deakin staff members who provide specialised support in the areas of assignment preparation and academic writing.
You may be referred to an Adviser for help in your studies. You can drop in to see a Language and Learning Adviser on site at Lilydale on Wednesdays during business hours until the end of the exam period in Trimester 2.
Other advisers are based at Deakin campuses, and are available for online consultation. Learning Centre staff can book an appointment for a 30 minute session for you. You can contact them by emailing email@example.com.
Maths mentors can assist you with numeracy and maths queries related to your course.
They're current Deakin students who are trained to assist other students, and are available online Monday to Friday from 11am–3pm during the teaching weeks and study periods prior to exams.
Learning Centre staff will help you contact a maths mentor via Skype or phone.
An academic skills adviser will be available from Dandenong on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9am–2pm to assist with specific questions about Cloud Deakin, unit assessment tasks, referencing, presentations and exams etc.
Learning Centre staff will assist you to set up a meeting via Skype or videoconference.
