Community engagement

Across the three regions in which Deakin has a campus presence, engagement with our communities is diverse and multifaceted. Working in partnership with industry, government, the TAFE and not for profit sector our outreach programs include service learning, corporate education, internships, research and sponsorship.

Our grounds and buildings are host to community sporting and social programs and our art collections and galleries contribute to the cultural fabric of each of our regions.

Through our Workplace Giving program Deakin staff contribute to and support the Smith Family, Brophy Family Services, Give Where You Live and Medicins Sans Frontiers.  Our sponsorship program reinforces our commitment to rural and regional engagement, life-long learning and equity and access.

Annually we deliver a comprehensive program of public lectures, workshops, seminars and events. During DeakinWeek, an annual campaign of events celebrating the legacy of the University’s namesake and father of Federation, Alfred Deakin, we showcase bright ideas, creative thinking, innovative teaching and cutting edge research.

Throughout all campuses, Deakin University is committed to reducing its environmental impacts and has implemented a number of strategies and innovative projects involving staff, students and the wider community.
