Career Opportunities in Biotechnology

The Metabolic Research Unit (MRU) of Deakin University is seeking to appoint up to five senior research scientists to augment our ongoing research programs in diabetes, obesity, heart disease and depression. The MRU is a strong, vibrant team of 40, led by Professor Greg Collier. The scientific programs are managed by nine post-doctoral fellows, drawn from the NIH, the Harvard Medical Centre, the WEHI, the University of Melbourne and the University of Queensland.

The MRU has an outstanding research infrastructure boasting;

Two fully automated ABI 3100 genetic analysers (DNA sequencing and microsatellite marker genotyping)
A Sequenom Mass Array SNP typing mass spectrophotometer
A state of the art cDNA microarray production and analysis facility
New, fully equipped biology, protein chemistry and histology laboratories

The strong research performance of the MRU over the past five years has resulted in the publication of 160 papers and research abstracts, as well as 37 patented genes. This excellent performance has seen the MRU attract multi-million dollar industry support, particularly from Autogen Limited, a publicly listed Australian biotechnology company.

The ongoing success of the MRU has created opportunities for experienced protein chemist, biochemists, molecular biologists and cell biologists to join our enthusiastic team. With scope for hands-on involvement with one of Australia's leading biotechnology companies, this is an excellent opportunity for professional and personal growth.
