Deakin receives Geelong Regional Vocational Education Council award

Deakin University has received an award from the Geelong Regional Vocational Education Council (GRVEC) for an outstanding contribution to structured workplace learning.

Deakin was one of 20 employers, selected from 446 who participated in a GRVEC program, to receive such an award. The Financial and Business Services Division has been regularly hosting students on work experience for the past 10 years through GRVEC, in conjunction with local secondary schools. GRVEC has been supporting young people in the Geelong Community since the late 1990s and its Structured Workplace Learning Program is designed to help develop students’ entry-level industry specific competencies as well as their generic skills for future employment. It is an important developmental exercise for senior secondary students, some of whom make career choices on the basis of their experience.
