Thousands of new Deakin students will have the opportunity to take a worldly view of campus thanks to an innovative combination of a selfie stick and GoPro cameras.

The quirky o-week initiative will see students snapping university surrounds with the Deakin Worldly Cam to create memorable 360 degree images worthy of social media sharing.

The Worldly Cam is made up of six GoPro cameras attached to a selfie stick, the must-have gift of last summer, and will be roving Deakin's Burwood and Geelong campuses throughout the week.

Captured images are stitched together using special panoramic software to help bring to life Deakin's worldly approach to education.

O-week celebrates the start of the university year with dozens of activities scheduled across Deakin's four campuses.

More than 10,000 new students are commencing studies at Deakin this year.

Students can find the Worldly Cam in Burwood on Monday and Wednesday, and at Geelong campuses on Tuesday.
