Statement from the Vice-Chancellor on the passing of Dr Alf Bamblett

Statement from Deakin University Vice-Chancellor Jane den Hollander:

The Deakin University community was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Dr Alf Bamblett.

Dr Bamblett was highly regarded as an Elder and leader in the Victorian Aboriginal Community and he helped shape many of the key Indigenous organisations in our State.

In 2004 Alfred Bamblett was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Deakin in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Aboriginal affairs, to the Koorie community and to the Institute of Koorie Education at Deakin.

Victoria has lost a strong voice for Indigenous education.
