Partnerships for HealthFaculty of Health, Medicine, Nursing and Behavioural SciencesOn Friday 31 October the Faculty of Health, Medicine, Nursing and Behavioural Sciences (HMNBS) held its 9th Annual Fourth Year Research Conference. The theme of this year’s conference, which was called Partnerships for Health, reflected the Faculty’s commitment to the University’s new Strategic Plan: Delivering Effective Partnerships. The conference has grown steadily over the past few years to become a significant event on the HMNBS calendar. With a record attendance of over 435 research students, supervisors, family members, friends and future students this year’s conference was a great success and a highly rewarding experience for all. After a welcome from Deputy Dean and Head of the School of Psychology, Professor Joseph Graffam, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor John Rosenberg, gave the opening address reflecting on the importance of partnerships and the strength of those that have been forged through the Faculty. The day incorporated three sessions of concurrent presentations across 12 venues at Deakin’s Melbourne Campus at Burwood. The keynote address, Generating Evidence – Research in Public Health, delivered by Senior Medical Adviser at the Department of Human Services, Dr Michael Ackland. The conference allowed the 147 current fourth year students to present their research findings, network, learn about exciting work in other disciplines within the Faculty and strengthen their communication and presentation skills in a supportive and familiar environment. After all presentations had concluded the Dean of the Faculty, Professor John Catford, awarded prizes to the most outstanding presentation in each of the groups. |
