Deakin Research Online set to expand
Library
Deakin Research Online (DRO) will be extended in 2009 to cover a wider range of material such as working papers, technical reports and government reports.
DRO was launched by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), Professor David Stokes, and the University Librarian, Anne Horn, on 30 September 2008. As a digital repository for University research outputs, DRO facilitates the permanent storage of research material. Most importantly, it associates the material with Deakin University, the relevant School, the Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) cluster and the researcher.
More than 2300 entries were added to the repository in its first few weeks, importing data recorded by Research Services Division for research published between 2002 and 2007. Up to 6000 research items will be included by the end of 2008. The repository is capable of storing a wide variety of formats including audiovisual, images and even small datasets.
The descriptions of research outputs are augmented with abstracts and links to published versions of the work. In many cases the publications are also accessible. Open access to research promotes Deakin research more widely and supports collaboration with researchers within and beyond Deakin University. Information in DRO is now available via Google and Australian Research Repositories Online to the World (ARROW).
The development of DRO is a collaborative project between the Library, Research Services Division and Information Technology Services Division.
