Give Them Wings scholarship win

First-year Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Midwifery students Grace Thompson and Nikita Bell have recently been awarded a prestigious 2015 Give Them Wings scholarship provided by the Royal Flying Doctor Service Victoria in partnership with Rural Health Workforce Australia.

2015 Thai Study Tour

Twenty four students and two staff members have just returned from the 2015 study tour to Thailand. The Study Tour was designed to provide nursing students with the opportunity to enhance their understanding of cross-cultural health and nursing care. Participants undertook a variety of activities in Bangkok, Klong Yai, Lampang and Chiang Mai.

Evaluation of an Advanced Perinatal Mental Health Program for Midwives

Dr Maureen Miles collaborated with the Perinatal Mental Health Team (Monash University) that successfully won a Department of Health tender to educate midwives. This work has been presented recently in an article that was published in the June 2015 edition of ANMJ. The article titled 'Evaluation of an advanced perinatal mental health program for midwives' discusses the findings of the Perinatal Mental Health (PMH) Education program. PMH refers to the emotional well-being of women during antenatal and postnatal periods.

Dr Joan Ostaszkiewicz was interviewed this week on ABC radio 774 as part of World Continence Week (WCW). Dr Ostaszkiewicz, together with Beth Wilson, Patron, Continence Foundation of Australia, spoke to Richard Stubbs about incontinence. WCW this year is focusing on those caring for someone with incontinence.

Community Simulation Centre Opening

In June 2015 the School of Nursing and Midwifery was very excited to open our new Community Simulation Centre. The centre is set up as someone's house and will provide students with the opportunity to learn and develop skills related to community nursing practice.

Bon Voyage to the Thailand Study Tour

The 2015 Study Tour to Thailand departs Melbourne later this month. Twenty four students and two staff members will be spending two weeks in Thailand undertaking a range of activities including information sessions, hospital visits and health assessments.
