Mr Brendan Fahrner
Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science (Honours)

Graduated: 2009
Employment: Sport Science Assistant, Richmond Football Club

‘Deakin has a strong reputation in the sport science and coaching fields,’ says Brendan. ‘Exercise and sport science is a great area, as it is completed behind the scenes to help athletes reach their absolute best. It’s an area I enjoy, and knowing that what I’ve learned may help lift the standards of sport and the performance of athletes is a highlight for me.’

After completing the Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science, Brendan undertook an honours placement at Geelong Football Club (GFC). Working closely with the fitness staff at GFC, Brendan was involved in finding predictors of performance, focusing on areas of physical fitness, training load and adaptive responses to this load, to help overall team performance.

‘The honours placement was highly enjoyable and allowed me to apply the knowledge from my undergraduate degree to enhance my learning. This gave me more confidence in my own ability and understanding of the processes of sport science and training athletes,’ he says. In addition to this highly sought-after honours placement, Brendan also completed a work placement with Richmond Football Club as part of his degree.
