Mr Joel Cooper Bachelor of Creative Arts (Dance) Melbourne Burwood Campus ‘I chose to study at Deakin because it has a strong commitment to the creative arts. The course is about helping it students become unique and diverse artists, as opposed trying to shape us into a specific mould or style. My lecturers have challenged my perceptions of dance and drama which has helped me create work that is completely new, fresh and non-conventional. The composition element of the course is incredible, and we get time each week to explore new choreographic ideas which increase our scope as dancers and choreographers. The unique aspect of this course is the strong emphasis on encouraging students to create a platform for their ideas and work. After graduating I plan to continue to make dance works and explore different ways to choreograph new material. I would also like to use my work as a platform to present social issues and challenge injustices. I have done some amazing internships through Deakin and have just returned from a study tour to India, which was awesome. We were given the opportunity to work with amazing choreographers, teachers, and philosophers, and as a group we were exposed to a wealth of dance culture and history that I’m sure will impact our movement for years to come.’ Find more information at http://www.deakin.edu.au/future-students/areas-of-study/performing-creative-arts.php |
