Dr Michelle Ludecke

Position: Casual Academic
Faculty or Division: Faculty of Arts and Education
Department: REDI Arts & Ed
Campus: Melbourne Burwood Campus

Michelle’s teaching and research come together through her interest in teachers’ work and lives. Her teaching has a particular focus on pre-service teachers’ tacit knowledge. She explores how they use this knowledge as a foundation for building their understanding of pedagogy and identity, and how this shapes the way teachers work. Michelle’s research employs performance-based methodologies to investigate education phenomena. Her work is about teachers and their audiences, and involves the whole human – thought, action, and emotion. Central to her recent research is the kinesthetic responses witnesses have to actually seeing teachers’ experiences. It also encompasses responses to the portrayals of teachers’ experiences. Such research concentrates on moments when both the audience and researcher tap into pre-reflective, embodied memories through empathic attention.
