Ruth holds an Honours thesis in History from Trinity College Dublin and a Master of Criminology from University of Melbourne. She has been the Senior Research Officer at the Australian Centre for the Study of Sexual Assault, worked for the Australian Juries and Expert Evidence Project and taught a wide range of criminology subjects at both La Trobe and the University of Melbourne with particular focus on crime prevention, victims and crime policy.
While lecturing at Deakin Ruth is also completing her PhD at the University of Melbourne on the history of probation practice with a focus on the changing role of the criminal justice volunteer, delinquency as a site of control and the development of the current system of corrections in Victoria. Her broader research interests include anti-social behaviour, public space and sexual assault.
Originally from Ireland Ruth has called Australia home for almost 10 years. She loves cooking, coffee, live music, theatre, cinema, tap dancing, and is a passionate Hawthorn supporter.
