Epworth Health Partnership

The Epworth Health Partnership is a joint initiative between Deakin University and Epworth HealthCare.

The centre was established in 2004 to conduct collaborative clinical research. It provides staff and students the opportunity to engage in clinically focussed multidisciplinary research and training across acute, rehabilitation and community health care settings.

Our research agenda

We specialise in developing and implementing evidence for nursing practice to enhance quality and safety in the delivery of health care. In particular, our research program is currently evaluating the effect different models of nursing care delivery have on health outcomes, medication quality and safety issues, and the impact of emerging technologies on patients and carers.

Our three overarching research priorities are:

  • Patient engagement and participation in healthcare
  • Patient experiences of care and recovery
  • Clinical support for delivery of high quality, safe care

Our vision

To be nationally and internationally recognised as a leader in collaborative clinical research.

To enhance health outcomes through an evidence-based approach of improving quality and safety in the delivery of clinical care.

Our mission

The centre provides academic and professional leadership to staff and students. We recognise the importance of combining expertise from both industry and academia to inform the quality and safety of healthcare delivery.

A defining feature of the centre is that it fosters a rich diversity of activities in health services research. Its aim is to enhance the research culture at Epworth, ultimately benefiting staff, academics, students and patients.

Our objectives

  1. Pursue a program of research that:
    • Supports the core clinical activities of Epworth HealthCare
    • Is situated within the QPS research cluster of Deakin’s Faculty of Health
  2. Support QPS activities at Epworth HealthCare through research translation
  3. Provide leadership and mentorship for the professional development of clinical and academic staff through research training and education
  4. Establish a public profile for the centre and our activities as a leader in research and an expert resource

Our team

The centre is led by Alfred Deakin Professor Mari Botti and supported by research fellows, multidisciplinary clinicians, nurse researchers and higher degree by research students (honours, master's, PhD).
