The Journal of Happiness Studies is a peer reviewed scholarly journal. It concerns the topic of happiness conceptualized, measured and examined in a variety of ways. Articles will be published that advance the understanding of happiness with improved theories, methodological techniques, measurement instruments and/or new data.

Papers may address happiness at the level of the individual, defined group or population. Either experimental or survey techniques are acceptable methods of data collection. Qualitative studies should normally be supplemented with quantitative data.

The Journal of Happiness Studies will publish reviews, empirical studies and philosophical analyses. Reviews should address some substantive aspect of happiness such as issues of conceptualization and nomenclature, measurement, the relationship between happiness and objective variables such as wealth or physical health, or the combination of happiness with other variables to form interactive systems. Empirical studies must demonstrate that they either inform measurement methodology or advance theory.

ISI added the journal to its database as of 2008 (Vol. 9/1). The journal will get an Impact Factor in 2010.  The journal is included in the following products:

- Social Sciences Citation Index
- Social Scisearch
- Journal Citation Reports/ Social Sciences Edition
- Current Contents/Social and Behavioral Sciences
