Animal ethics

Staff and students must obtain ethical approval for the use of vertebrate species (including fish) in research or teaching. This may be granted by the Animal Welfare Committee (AWC) for project proposals that comply with the guidelines set out by the Australian Code of Practice for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes, 2004. Applications are submitted directly to the AWC Secretary [animal-ethics@deakin.edu.au]. Approval must be obtained prior to commencing the project.

The AWC requires notification of research using invertebrates through submission of a Notification of Project Involving the Use of Invertebrates form (see the Forms link to the left).
