New project applications

All Deakin University staff and students who wish to apply for human ethics approval for a new project must complete NEAF and the required supplementary forms.

If your project is low risk, you may apply to your Faculty Human Ethics Advisory Group (HEAG) to have your ethics application reviewed through an Expedited Review process. Please visit Expedited Review for further information.

What do I need to submit?

A new application for human ethics approval comprises:

  1. National Ethics Application Form (NEAF)
  2. DU-HREC Victorian Privacy Supplement
  3. DU-HREC Capacity to Consent Supplement
  4. Plain Language Statement and Consent Form (must use templates provided)
  5. Other documents related to your project including advertisements, flyers, questionnaires, interview schedules, etc.

If your project involves ionising radiation, you are required to also submit the DU-HREC Ionising Radiation Supplement. Please note that all research involving the exposure of humans to ionising radiation must comply with the requirements of The Code of Practice for the Exposure of Humans to Ionising Radiation for Research Purposes, developed by the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA).

When will I hear the outcome of my application?
You should receive email notification of the outcome of your application within three to four weeks of the Committee meeting at which your application was considered.
