"Sydney here we come!"
With those words, Rebecca Lindberg ended a gracious acceptance speech after being named as the winner of Deakin's Three Minute Thesis competition for 2013.
Rebecca, a PhD candidate in the School of Exercise and Nutrition Science, won against a high-powered field of 10 entrants drawn from the across the University.
Her presentation was titled: Food insecurity in Australia.
Rebecca readily congratulated her fellow finalists.
"I am really surprised to be standing here as the winner," she said.
"All the presentations were amazing."
Rebecca wins $2000 and now travels to Sydney to represent Deakin in the national final.
The runner-up was Kim Anderson for her paper The NDRG2 gene: alleviating the loss of skeletal muscle.
She receives $1000.
The People's Prize of $500 went to Gayathri Devi Rajmohan from Deakin's Institute for Frontier Materials.
Her presentation was titled: Dye sensitised solar cells - Mimicking plants.
