Conditioned Textile Laboratory

Conditioned textile lab

This laboratory is a conditioned environment for the testing of fibres yarns and fabrics. The room conditions are 20±°C and 65±2%.

Fibre measurement

  • Sifan II BSC Electronics single fibre tensile testing
    • natural and synthetic fibres
    • 15mm - 150mm gauge length
    • single angle diameter scanning along fibre length

    • measures mean fibre diameter, SD and curvature
    • measures fibre diameter versus length for staple fibres
    • can measure greasy staple fibres
  • Textechno Fibrestress single fibre bending abrasion tester
    • bending abrasion measurement at 90° and 110°
    • tensile fatigue under constant load/unload
    • 25 fibres per run
    • variable oscillation rate (0.25 - 2Hz)
    • variable oscillation distance (1-10mm)
  • SDL Fibre Draw fibre length tester

Yarn measurement

Surface contact angle

  • KSV Cam 101 surface contact angle
    • surface contact angle versus time measurement
    • wetting time measurement

Microscopy preparation

  • Slee Mainz CUT 5062 microtome

Spectrophotometric analysis

  • Brucker Vertex 70 FTIR
    • Pike ATR with Germanuim crystal (4000cm-1 - 600cm-1)
    • KBr measurement (8000cm-1 - 400cm-1)
