Polymer Composites and Nanocomposites

Inorganic-organic hybrid composites. Inorganic-organic hybrid composites with ordered and disordered nanostructures were synthesized via sol-gel reaction utilizing an amphiphilic polyethylene-block-poly(ethylene oxide) diblock copolymer as the directing agent (Guo, Q., et al, Polymer 2007, 48, 3925).

Hybrid nanocomposites

Dispersion and assembly of carbon nanotubes in epoxy resins. It remains a major challenge to disperse carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in a polymer matrix to obtain polymer/CNT composites with maximum material performance. We study dispersion and assembly of CNTs in epoxy resins. In particular, we have achieved an extremely superior dispersion of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) in epoxy matrix, and the resultant CNT/epoxy composites exhibit significantly improved mechanical properties.
