Research interests:

The focus of Dr Dai's research is on producing new surfaces/interfaces with new functionality and on the fabrication/doping of nanomaterials. This encompasses the development of novel plasma technologies and methodologies; the development of materials with new functionality for energy and biomedical applications using semiconductors, metals, ceramics, polymers and textiles; and improved understanding of the underlying mechanisms through various surface characterizations, analysis and diagnostics. She has established a new plasma laboratory at IFM since joining Deakin in 2009 and has grown many collaborations within IFM ,across the University and with outside research organizations nationally and internationally. The current project examples are:
- Functional/doped nanostructured electrodes and materials for energy storage devices
- Development of new working electrode and solid electrolyte for dye-sensitized solar cells by using plasma doping, functionalization, and polymerization
- Development of novel nanotuboids by plasma nanofabrication for biomedical applications
- Plasma surface functionalization of nanomaterials, especially CNTs, BNNTs, and their composites
- Textile applications, including carbon fibre sizing, pilling performance, textile electronics, and textile wastewater treatment
- Development of biosensors using nanomaterials
