Research interests:
In the domain of electrochemical devices, I am interested in the behaviour of porous conductive bodies (such as battery electrodes), the characterization of failure modes in battery and capacitor electrodes, percolation theory and its application to the properties of porous systems, the role of electrolytes in lithium batteries, and the development of high power energy storage devices.
In the more general field of electrochemistry, I maintain interests in the surface chemistry of reactive metal electrodes (esp. lithium), as well as in diffusion and ion-movement, especially in the relatively newly discovered media of ionic liquids where the mechanism of ion movement is generally poorly understood.
Qualifications:
- BSc (hons) (Deakin University, Australia - 1984)
- PhD (Deakin University, Australia - 1988)
Relevant employment history:
- 1988 - present: Principal Research Scientist, CSIRO Energy Technology
