The Use of Animals in Media

In Victoria, the use of animals in media is governed by the Code of Practice for welfare of film animals.  This Code applies to the use of animals in the production of films for cinemas, television, recreational or educational purposes, including features, documentaries, serials, videos and advertising commercials.

Deakin researchers who intend to work or use animals in the media must obtain AEC approval, prior to organising and commencing any work in the media

1. Before any work commences, investigators must notify the the Animal Ethics Office about their intention to work or use animals in media.
2. Investigators must adhere to the Code of practice for the welfare of film animals  
3. Deakin AEC must approve the use of animals in media
