Animal Monitoring and Record Keeping
Investigators and teachers must maintain records of the use and monitoring of animals used for scientific purposes (Section 3.1.9 of the Code). For every approved AEC application, the records should include:
- the origin and fate of animals
- how the animal welfare was assessed
- any unexpected negative impact on animal-well being
- notations of procedures carried out on the animal/s; and
- additional information to be recorded required by the AEC
Additional Investigator Guidelines for record keeping have been provided by the Bureau of Animal Welfare.
Monitoring Sheets:
Under Section 2.2.27 the Code, Investigators must maintain records that will enable the AEC to verify that the welfare of the animals have been monitored as detailed in the approved AEC application.
