Human Research Ethics

We are committed to assisting Deakin researchers to understand and meet their ethics obligations while providing a fast and efficient ethics review process.

We provide induction, training and support in all aspects of human research ethics.

We offer:

Quick start

Important note: It is compulsory for all Deakin staff and students submitting an ethics application for the first time at Deakin (either DUHREC or HEAG) to pass the online human research ethics quiz. Prior to attempting the quiz, you may choose to participate in training which is delivered in person or online.

To gain access to the online training and the quiz, you will need to register for the "Office of Research Integrity" Cloud Deakin site. To do so:

  • Log into Cloud Deakin,
  • Click on the More button in the top right of the screen,
  • Select Self Registration from the drop down menu,
  • Choose the Office of Research Integrity link in the registration page that opens, and
  • Click the Register button in the dialogue box that opens.

The site will then appear within the My Sites area of your Cloud Deakin homepage (if you are a staff member, please ensure you look under your student tab).

The compulsory quiz is located at the bottom of the training modules in the Human Research Ethics folder. Once you have passed the quiz you will receive a confirmation email which you can submit with your first application. If you have already been listed as a researcher on a successful application submitted prior to 2 April 2012, you are exempt from this requirement. External researchers listed on Deakin applications are also exempt from this requirement.

Please note: Human research ethics training and research integrity training cover different material. Completing research integrity training is not sufficient to meet the compulsory human ethics training requirements.

Further information regarding compulsory training can be found in the compulsory training rules document, or contact an ethics advisor.
