All ionising radiation users must comply with the Radiation Act 2005 and the Radiation Regulations 2007, which are administered in Victoria by the Department of Health. A mandatory requirement of the legislation is that all University practices involving ionising radiation are carried out under a Radiation Management Licence. The University has a Radiation Management Plan to ensure compliance with legislation and to provide a basis for a uniform approach to radiation safety throughout the University. It is University Procedure that prior to the commencement of any projects involving ionising radiation that a Work Safety Assessment is completed and approved by the University Radiation Safety Officer and the Area Manager.
Before beginning work with ionising radiation all of the factors listed below should be considered.
