The central code governing research integrity in Australia is the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research (the Code). The Code is a joint statement of The National Health and Medical Research Council, the Australian Research Council and Universities Australia. It operates in conjunction with the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research, and other codes relating to particular kinds of research, to help define best conduct in research.
The code is based on a broad understanding of research integrity:
This it taken from Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research 2007 p. 1.3.
Compliance with the Code is a prerequisite for receipt of NHMRC or ARC funding.
The Code was formally adopted at Deakin University by Academic Board in June 2008. All active researchers must make themselves aware of the Code and its contents.
Revised policies and procedures were approved by Academic Board in March 2011. The core Deakin policy is the Research Operational Policy and there are a number of linked procedures, including a process for allegations of research misconduct.
